Introducing Our People

Paul Heard, Vicar
Paul came to Sumner-Redcliffs parish from Nelson in 2003, some might suggest to be closer to the Canterbury ski fields.  He has a gift for teaching and has special interests in the areas of Alpha, home groups and healing ministry.  He worked initially as Associate Vicar, then in 2009 was appointed as Vicar.  His wife Kay also has a calling to the healing ministry.
Alan Wallace  Alan Wallace, Associate Pastor
Alan was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland.  He became a Christian at a charismatic conference at the age of 17.  In 1979 he moved to London to train as a Church Army Evangelist and studied theology.  After he was commissioned by the Archbishop of Canterbury he became the Youth Officer for the Diocese of Norwich, before running a community centre in East London.  Following this he worked for Church Mission Society as their National Youth Officer and travelled to Nepal, Uganda, and Israel as part of his work.   In 1999 he set up Affinity Events Ltd a company to assist Christian organizations in  running their events, one of which was the Lambeth Conference in 2008.

Sam Knight Sam Knight, Youth Pastor
Relating to young people helps make a good Youth Pastor.  Sam has that talent and alongside his enthusiasm and popularity with our young people, he also brings wisdom and respect to his role.  Five years after giving his life to the Lord, Sam felt the call to work with young people and in 2005 he offered himself for the position of Youth Pastor at Sumner-Redcliffs.  He is supported in this work by his wife Kim and they are parents to two teenagers.  Recently Sam completed a degree course with Bible College of New Zealand.

Liz Wallace Liz Wallace, Children's Pastor & Parish Secretary
Liz was born in Yeovil, Somerset but spent most of her childhood in Chepstow South Wales. Although brought up going to church, she discovered a personal relationship with God at University. After a degree in Primary Education with English and Drama she taught in the UK then spent 2 years teaching in Uganda before becoming the National Youth Officer for Mid-Africa Ministry a mission society working in Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi and DR Congo.  She visited schools, youth groups and organized overseas teams.  While working in London she met Alan who was the National Youth Officer for CMS and they married in 1996.  Since 2000 she has worked alongside Alan in Affinity Events Ltd.

Denise McGill, Pastoral Care Coordinator
Denise McGill heads our Pastoral Care Team.  Trained as a nurse, she has also worked for a number of years in hospital chaplaincy - a background which equips her ideally for her work in pastoral care.  Denise brings great compassion to her role as she ministers to those who are in need at times of grief, sickness or misfortune.  Denise is married to Andrew and is currently enjoying the experience of grandmotherhood.
