Sumner Redcliffs Anglican Church

Important Update on our Weekly Services at SumRed

E te whānaua te Karaiti, kia ora!

I have some important news to share with you.

As you know, we have recently embarked on a strategic re-positioning of SumRed Church. The plan has six key parts (details of which can be found here).

One key element is the move of our 1030am service to the Sumner School Hall while another is our family’s move to Sumner. As of this week we have relocated to Sumner and planning for the move to the school hall is well underway.

Which brings me to one final update I would like to share with you:

  • Vestry has agreed with a change to our pattern of worship pertaining to the 7pm service.

Going forward a special 7pm service will be held on the first Sunday of the month with a special emphasis on creating a ‘Worship Festival’ atmosphere. There’ll be a focus on contemporary music and testimonies with opportunities to receive prayer ministry. The service will also feature an epic feast and a special message for the day. The intent is to create an irresistible church environment that we love to invite our friends to engage with.

However, the bigger shift is to do with 7pm services on the remaining Sundays. As of October the other 7pm services will not be held. The reasons for this are that I am acutely aware of the risk of volunteer fatigue as we attempt to host up to 5 services a week, a large number of services for a modest sized church. Also, with the move to the school for the 1030am service, there is a risk of increasing the demand on our volunteers who do so much behind the scenes. This is not to say that we will not re-introduce 7pm services beyond the 1st Sunday of each month. But for the time being we will be focussing on resourcing our midweek, 9am and 1030am services to the best of our ability.

If you have any questions, concerns or comments about this please feel free to drop me a line: vicar@sumred.org.nz

God’s awesome peace,

Harry Lokolong
