Sumner-Redcliffs Anglican Church: 150th Celebration

We're in the midst of planning our 150th anniversary as a Parish and the 120th anniversary of St Andrew's Redcliffs. We'll communicate in the near future the plan for celebrating these important milestones in the life of our church.

In the meantime, why not save the date?

We'll be having a week of celebrations from Monday 23 November - Sunday 29 November 2026.

Through out the week there will be various events taking place as well as a special combined service at Sumner School Hall on Sunday 29 November 2026. Bishop Peter Carrell will be joining us for the service and more on the Sunday.

We will communicate details soon. In the meantime here are some photos of our churches here in Sumner-Redcliffs, Christchurch/Otoutahi.

The old stone church, All Saints Sumner, was lost in the aftermath of the 2011 Christchurch earthquakes. The Parish hall, memorial garden, land, offices, and Vicarage were also demolished for safety reasons. The land is now red-zoned and managed by the Christchurch City Council.

The interior of our current church in Sumner - Nayland Street Chapel. The Chapel was purchased as a temporary worship space post earthquake. An extensive refurbishment project was completed in 2025. This included work to the exterior and interior of the building and flood mitigation work.
The current church situated at St Andrew's Redcliffs replaced the original wooden chapel first constructed on site.
The interior of Nayland Street Chapel includes a dedicated youth hall and indoor skate ramp.
